I had the pleasure of being the latest Art resident for Jordan Knecht’s Blueprint Residency Program. Blueprint Residency is an artist residency held in the home of Jordan Knecht in Chicago, Illinois.
I created visual impressions / Ghost of sound being created by a audio receiver located in the main area above the desk in the Blueprint studio. I began setting up my tool kit for the day, when I noticed my LED light table created an arcing current of sound as I pressed down on the button to increase the light density. I used sndpeek (real-time audio visualization software) to record images of the sound. We also recorded the rain that had been coming down all day to add to the tool box. Afterward I created screen grabs from the wavelengths through the duration of each. Once isolated each duration was stacked into a single column.
It was a great opportunity to create a site specific piece. I was excited to use a machine that was designed to create archives of architectural plans as a memory marker.
Jordan was a great host supplying plenty of stimulation conversations and snacks like Pomegranate, spicy chips from his stash of St. Louis spicy chips, and last but not least Black tea with cream to keep me caffeinated on the gray rainy day. Our conversations throughout the day encompassed the art of sound and music. I find sharing art (music) and learning about others through these conversations to be priceless. I created a playlist in concert with the development of this print which can be found below.
The dinner was excellent a beautiful piece of Tuna with a sesame and soy based glaze accompanied by a smooth spicy Green curry with Tofu over brown rice. It was a perfect meal to share with Jordan. Our conversations spanned the course of time and its use in art, as I pulled and pressed at the idea of compressing the moment.
This exercised allowed me to peel open a moment and to share stories with a friend and peer and leave with a physical impression. I was happy to see the results. 25 prints of this edition are available.
